Brake Discs

Brake Discs

Brake Discs play a key role in your vehicles braking system and have to undergo huge stresses that's why its important to choose a good quality brake disc that has been manufactured to your requirements. Almost all brake discs are manufactured from a material called grey cast iron commonly known as G3000 which is a mix of materials usually containing, Iron, Carbon, Silicon, Sulphur and Manganese, these are carefully mixed together to obtain the correct hardness, tensile strength and composition necessary for the application.

Some brake discs will have a higher Carbon content to provide extra strength which will make them more suitable to performance applications or high powered vehicles. The stresses commonly applied to a brake disc will be thermal, shear and compression they will also be subject to outside influences such as water, salt and corrosive brake dust and other debris, whilst there are some very cheap brake discs available we would advise purchasing only high quality brake discs because after-all it is the job of the brake discs to slow your vehicle and absorb the heat generated by the friction of the brake pads, day after day month after month.
